The Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality Management for New Zealand

Preliminary Draft Release - October 2005

The Ministry is pleased to release the draft Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality Management for New Zealand (“Guidelines”). The Guidelines have been significantly expanded on the previous 1995 edition. They are to be read as a complement to the DWSNZ 2005 as they explain the derivation of material in the Standards and provide ‘how-to’ advice for achieving a high level of water quality management.

The Guidelines document is of a substantial size, and our aim is to make web access to the document as user-friendly as possible. The full document has been broken down into three volumes:

Volume II: Appendices 1 – 8
Volume III: Datasheets

To assist in accessing this diversity of material via the website, we have provided each chapter and appendix separately. The Datasheets are provided as a separate document as a PDF with bookmarks, so that you can link directly to the relevant datasheet for that property.

These documents are available in both WORD and PDF format. The final format for the published Guidelines has yet to be decided, but it is anticipated it will comprise both hard copy and electronic material. Some additional reference material may also be made available electronically at the time the Guidelines are published.

These draft Guidelines will remain on the Ministry website until after 1 January 2006, when the Standards come into effect. This will allow the Ministry time to address any other issues that may arise during this transition period.

The Ministry is interested in feedback on any issues that you think may require further clarity or explanation. We have prepared a template for you to use when providing feedback to us on the Guidelines.
