Clinical Training Agency Strategic Intentions 2003–2012
I am pleased to present the Clinical Training Agency Strategic Intentions 2003–2012. This is the first time a plan for post-entry clinical training encompassing 10 years has been developed, and it will form the basis of CTA purchasing in the future. A review of the purchasing directions outlined in the plan will be undertaken annually, to ensure congruency with service planning and health priorities, and also to assess workforce volume estimates against actual numbers. A strategic relationship has been formed with the DHBNZ Workforce Development Group to ensure appropriate input from DHBs on an ongoing basis.

The plan has been developed in an environment of change. Both the health and education sectors are undergoing fundamental transformation, which will lead to the opportunity for exciting and innovative initiatives in the way health care and education is provided.

The challenge for the sector now is to improve the quality of health workforce information, analysis and planning to enable targeting funds in a way that produces the best results for health and disability service consumers and the health workforce. There are a number of groups now actively involved in these tasks – collaboration between these groups will be key to good results for the future.
