Appointments to Health Statutory Bodies
Upcoming Appointments and Current Vacancies
Candidates interested in applying for appointment to a health statutory body should be familiar with the legislation relevant to the body they are interested in. Candidates should also read and understand the applicable terms of reference or candidate information to ensure they are aware of the workload and requirements for members.
Interested individuals and organisations are also invited to nominate potential candidates for consideration by writing a letter of support to the address below.

Pursuant to section 18 of the New Zealand Health and Disability Act 2000
Perioperative Mortality Review Committee
This notice is made on behalf of the Minister of Health to request nominations and/or applications for the Perioperative Mortality Review Committee (the ‘Committee’). There are up to ten vacancies available.
The purpose of the Committee is to review and report to the Minister on perioperative mortality and other mortality and morbidity as directed by the Minister. The definition and scope of perioperative can be found in the attached Terms of Reference.
Collectively the Committee will have the following expertise:
knowledge of quality improvement and risk management, in particular quality assurance in the health sector
knowledge of data and information gathering systems and analysis
knowledge of, and experience in, clinical epidemiology
substantial clinical experience and national credibility in one or more of the following: anaesthesia; surgery; obstetrics and gynaecology; intensive care; surgical nursing; and procedural internal medicine (e.g. cardiology)
senior level DHB service provision and management (e.g. Chief Executive, Chief Medical Officer, or Director of Nursing)
senior level private hospital service provision and management
knowledge of Māori health
knowledge of Pacific Island health
consumer participation and representation.

Dental Council
Vacancies that will arise in early 2010 are for two lay members and three dentists.
Particular consideration will be given to nominees who meet the following criteria:
Governance experience
Good communication skills
Capacity to attend meetings and take on additional projects.

Professional knowledge across all dental scopes of practice
Good standing in the profession
Current Annual Practicing Certificate
Lay members
Business/accounting skills
Legal knowledge
