Smokefree Law in New Zealand

In December 2003, an amendment to the Smoke-free Environments Act 1990 (the Act) was passed. The changes to the Act will have implications for schools and early childhood centres, retailers, licensed premises, sports clubs and all employers.

A number of resources have been developed to assist affected groups to understand their obligations under the Act.

You can use this calculator as a guide to help you determine whether an area is 'open' or 'internal' for the purposes of the Smoke-free Environments Act 1990.


Pamphlets can be downloaded from this site, while pamphlets, signs and stickers can be ordered from your local health education resource provider.
