11 Mar: Health Workforce Information Programme - Nursing Projections Project (www.dhbnz.org.nz)
This project is a national level initiative undertaking a series of forecasting and modelling exercises on the nursing workforce in New Zealand to provide a robust basis for workforce planning.

5 Mar: New Zealand Practice Nurse Leader UK Tour, July 2008 - Report for the Ministry of Health
In July 2008 the Chief Nurse and a Senior Analyst from the Nursing team at the Ministry of Health, along with four New Zealand Practice Nurse Leaders travelled to England and Wales on a two-week study tour. This is the Practice Nurse Leaders report of what they saw, heard and learnt.

21 Nov: A National Professional Development Framework for Palliative Care Nursing in Aotearoa New Zealand
This document, like the complementary A National Professional Development Framework for Cancer Nursing in Aotearoa New Zealand (in publication), provides a set of competency indicators that describe generalist and specialty practice in palliative care nursing, for nurses, managers and educators. It was developed as part of the implementation of the New Zealand Palliative Care Strategy (Ministry of Health 2001) and the Cancer Control Strategy Action Plan 2005–2010 (Ministry of Health 2005).

13 Nov: Rural Nurse to Nurse Practitioner Study - Information sheet and invitation to participate (PDF, 151 KB)
Rural nurses who are interested in becoming a Nurse Practitioner are invited to take part in a survey designed to explore their experience.

16 Oct: DVD: Nurse Practitioner - a healthy future
The Nurse Practitioner DVD profiles two Nurse Practitioners in different settings, one in rural Northland and one based at Palmerston North Hospital. The film lasts for 10 minutes, and is recommended viewing for employers, nurses, NPs and consumers of health care services in New Zealand.

This report provides comprehensive information on the cancer and palliative care nursing workforce in New Zealand, with particular emphasis on education. National, regional and local data have been presented, which will serve as baselines against which future evaluations of the workforce can be made.

18 Aug: Māori nursing and workforce initiatives
In Budget 2008, the Government has allocated $12 million over the next four years to initiatives aimed at boosting the capacity and capability of Māori health workforce.

27 Mar: An Approach to Risk Reduction and Risk Management for Cardiovascular Disease and Type 2 Diabetes with Nurse Leadership in Primary Health Care
This report describes the project and findings from a pilot project which has aimed to link health promotion, support of early detection and early intervention for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes (diabetes) and CVD risk management according to best practice guidelines with nurse leadership.

Jun: Scholarships and funding for post-graduate education
If you wish to apply for funding for your post-graduate studies from the second semester of 2007 onwards you need to contact the Director of Nursing in the District Health Board (DHB) you work in.

This is because from 1 July 2007 the responsibility for the allocation of funds to support post-graduate nursing education has been transferred from the Ministry of Health to District Health Boards (DHBs).
