Information for Pregnant Women
District Health Boards - maternity services
Auckland DHB
National Women's Health Service, which is based at Auckland City Hospital, is a large maternity unit with primary, secondary and tertiary facilities for both mother and baby.

Bay of Plenty DHB
The Women, Child and Family service covers paediatrics, maternity and gynaecology services for Tauranga, Whakatane and the surrounding district.

Canterbury DHB
The Women's Health Provider directory contains the name of providers who may not necessarily be funded by the Canterbury District Health Board.
Capital & Coast DHB
Wellington Hospital provides primary, secondary and tertiary maternity services with two satellite units located at Kenepuru Hospital (Porirua) and the Kapiti Health Centre (Paraparaumu).

Counties Manukau DHB
Primary Maternity care is provided in Counties Manukau by a range of Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs); GPs, Midwives or Specialists, who are independent (not employed by CMDHB) and also by Midwives employed by CMDHB. CMDHB midwives work in both community and in hospital settings.

Hawke's Bay DHB
In conjunction with the LMC, the maternity facility provides inpatient services during labour and birth and the immediate postpartum period until discharge home.

Hutt Valley DHB

Lakes DHB
The Woman, Child & Family Service offers a diverse range of services including hospital care services for children, a birthing unit and outpatient clinics for both women and children.

Nelson Marlborough DHB
In Nelson Marlborough GPs, independent midwives, midwives employed by NMDHB and some specialist obstetricians all provide LMC services. The LMCs are supported by parenting and pregnancy education and refer those women who have complicated pregnancy needs to the specialist obstetric secondary services.

Northland DHB

South Canterbury DHB
Well Child Services

Southland DHB
Southland Hospital services the population of Southland including the Wakatipu Basin. The Maternity Service at Southland Hospital provides a primary and secondary birthing and postnatal facility along with a secondary care specialist consultative service.

Tairawhiti DHB
TDH has a team of Lead Maternity Carer midwives who provide continuity of care in the community for women from early pregnancy through the childbearing process to 4-6 weeks postnatal.

Taranaki DHB
Taranaki Health Maternity Unit is a Base Secondary and Primary birthing unit, providing care for New Plymouth women and those transferred from other Hospitals throughout the region.

Breastfeeding Help and Information Sources

Whanganui DHB
The Community and Rural Services continuum provides maternity, paediatric, neonatal, public health, school dental and visiting neuro-developmental services to individuals and families of the Whanganui region.

This pamphlet provides information on birthing options for pregnant women who've previously had a caesarean birth.

This pamphlet provides information for pregnant women on birthing options when the baby is in a breech position.

Information for parents about soy-based milk alternatives.

Screening Programmes
Newborn Metabolic Screening Programme
This service is designed to provide early identification of newborns that are affected by certain congenital metabolic disorders. Screening for your newborn for all these disorders is strongly recommended, but it is not compulsory.

Antenatal Screening for Down Syndrome
Antenatal screening can estimate for each woman her chance of having a child with Down syndrome.
