H5N1 Pre-Pandemic Vaccine Consultation Document

Date of publication: December 2007
Submissions closed: 15th February 2008

Summary

The Ministry manages a stockpile of 100,000 courses of H5N1 pre-pandemic vaccine, made from a currently circulating strain of H5N1 avian influenza. Should a human H5N1 influenza virus emerge, the pre-pandemic vaccine will be offered to key front-line health workers and other front-line pandemic response personnel.

This consultation document identifies the staff groups who will be offered the vaccine, and outlines some operational details. It is principally intended for review by the relevant personnel and agencies, but the consultation process is also open to the public and the Ministry encourages anyone who is interested to make a submission.
