Submission Form (Word, 444 KB)
Summary
The Clinical Training Agency (CTA) is currently completing a Review of Public Health medicine training. The Review includes an update of the training specification document for public health registrar training. A specification describes the training services funded by the CTA.
We are inviting those who have an interest in public health medicine training to provide comments on the interim specification for the training programme.
The attached interim specification was developed with the advice and assistance of the Public Health Medicine Expert Advisory Group (EAG). The members were broadly representative of the public health medicine sector, and met twice in Christchurch during May and June 2008. The previous specification, the EAG members, minutes of the meetings, and further background information on the Review can be found at
www.moh.govt.nz/cta
.
Aside from terminology, editing and formatting changes, the following substantive revisions have been made to the Specification:
Updated roles and functions for public health medicine training
Addition of the current list of competencies
Provision for off-site Trainers in exceptional cases, which will enable a wider range of training sites to be developed over time
Provision for training placements to be developed in Pacific Islands, and support for Pacific trainees
Clarification that CTA funding is not to be used for child care costs
Specification of the role of the Maori Director of Training, and of the programme coordination function
Removal of the epidemiology stream (this focus is incorporated wthin the programme as a whole)
Provision for funding to be extended in exceptional trainee cases
Reference to a generic rather than specific Standard Setting Body for the training programme (as determined by the Medical Council of New Zealand).
How to have your say
The CTA invites your comment on this interim specification, using the
attached feedback form
if that is useful. Once feedback has been collated and reviewed, a final version will be approved by the CTA Purchase Board, and posted on the Ministry website.
The deadline for feedback is 8 April 2009
