National Health Emergency Plan: Hazardous Substances Incident Hospital Guidelines

Date of publication: December 2005

ISBN: 0-478-29903-6
HP4207

Citation: Ministry of Health. 2005. National Health Emergency Plan: Hazardous substances incident hospital guidelines 2005. Wellington: Ministry of Health.

The Hazardous Substances Incident Hospital Guidelines are a part of the National Health Emergency Plan. Hazardous substances (Hazsub) incidents can occur anywhere in the community at any time, so health facilities, and in particular Emergency Departments, must have a level of capability for managing Hazsub incidents appropriate to their level of risk.

These guidelines have been developed to help District Health Boards develop plans, systems and processes that ensure contaminated or potentially contaminated people presenting to their facilities can be treated appropriately while minimising risks to staff and the facility.
