Progress on Health Outcome Targets 1999

Date of publication: December 1999

Foreword

This is the seventh annual report in the State of the Public Health series.

This report, Progress on Health Outcome Targets 1999, focuses exclusively on monitoring progress toward specified public health targets. The current report updates from the previous report with the data available during 1997 and 1998.

The Web document will be supplemented with regular updates of information as they become available to allow more timely access to information. Changes in the report from last year’s are the exclusion of sections on target derivation, health impact, and strategies. These can be found in Progress on Health Outcome Targets 1998.

This edition of Progress on Health Outcome Targets should be read in connection with Our Health Our Future,a five-yearly report on the state of the public health recently published by Ministry of Health.

Within the next four months we will also publish some initial indicators and baseline data to allow District Health Boards to assess their performance on delivering on the priority population health areas identified in the New Zealand Health Strategy. It is our intention to incorporate these baseline indicators in the next Progress on Health Outcome Targets report.

We would be pleased to receive comments and suggestions on this and future reports.
