A Summary of Submissions on the Review of Processes Concerning Adverse Medical Events

Date of publication: August 2001

On 12 March the Ministry released for consultation the Review of Processes Concerning Adverse Medical Events by Helen Cull, QC. The report was commissioned by the Government to review the current legislation concerning the Health and Disability Commissioner, the Medical Council of New Zealand, the Medical Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal and the ACC Medical Misadventure Unit. This document summarises the 51submissions received by the Ministry of Health.

This analysis will contribute to advice to the Minister of Health from the Ministry of Health on whether there should be changes to the current complaint processes, and if so, what these changes should be. It should be noted, however, that this analysis is not necessarily a reflection of the Ministry’s position.
