The Health of New Zealand: Total population is the first in a series of summaries of the current health status of the New Zealand population produced by Public Health Intelligence, Ministry of Heath.

The booklet gives an overview of the demographic composition of the New Zealand population, statistics on a range of risk factors that impact on health (eg, smoking and physical activity), morbidity-related indicators (eg, cancer and disability) and the main causes of mortality (eg, suicide and infant mortality).

Two further summaries will be published on the health status of Mäori and Pacific peoples.
