Training and education BFHI/BFCI Breastfeeding Training and Education Requirements This paper, prepared by the New Zealand Breastfeeding Authority for the Ministry of Health, is part of the development of a breastfeeding training programme – one of three key components of breastfeeding work being done under the Healthy Eating – Healthy Action implementation plan. The breastfeeding training programme will contribute to improving up-skilling and training of the maternity health provider workforce (regulated workforce) and the community support provider workforce (unregulated workforce). The programme will ensure that training is consistent and addresses common problems and solutions to enable breastfeeding. The programme will also meet the needs of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and Baby Friendly Community Initiative (BFCI) accreditation and specifically meet the needs of the Māori and Pacific workforce.
