The Baby Friendly Initiative New Zealand has been very active in working towards the development of mother and baby friendly and family/ whānau focused care within our maternity facilities. The majority of our New Zealand maternity hospitals are now designated ‘Baby Friendly’ which means they are committed to helping mothers start out well with breastfeeding and have passed an accreditation process. Baby Friendly maternity facilities support breastfeeding mothers by creating and implementing supportive policies and practices.
