The Code in New Zealand

The International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes aims to contribute to the provision of safe and adequate nutrition for infants.

It does this by:

  • protecting and promoting breastfeeding
  • encouraging the proper use of breast-milk substitutes, when they are necessary, on the basis of adequate information and through appropriate marketing and distribution.
The Ministry of Health implements and monitors the International Code though The Code in New Zealand.

For more information on The Code in New Zealand and how to make a complaint about a possible breach to either:

  1. the Code of Practice for Health Workers in New Zealand or
  2. the Code of Practice for the Marketing of Infant Formula
go to the Implementing and Monitoring the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes in New Zealand section.
