Nursing Council Approval of Postgraduate programmes

The CTA postgraduate training specification requires that training programmes, such as postgraduate diplomas, be approved by the NCNZ. Individual courses (previously referred to as papers) are not required to be approved separately. Please check the NCNZ website or with the training provider to ensure that the programme meets this requirement.

Multidisciplinary Training and Interprofessional Education (IPE)

Multidisciplinary and IPE programmes must meet the criteria such as NCNZ approval to be eligible for CTA funding. However individual courses may be able to be credited towards the NCNZ approved programme. This will allow for funding of individual IPE courses as part of a NCNZ approved programme. Please check with your training provider.

Clinical Masters Funding

CTA funding is provided for training up to Clinical Masters level. Funding is not available for research based Masters study or for Masters of Arts as these programmes are not approved by the NCNZ as contributing to the Nurse Practitioner pathway. Further details are available in the CTA postgraduate nursing specification to be found on www.moh.govt.nz/cta

Part-time Study

Funding is available for part-time study. This is not the same as part-time employment. Funding is calculated according to training units. Training units are used to prorata the funding for part-time study eg 0.5 training unit is considered to be part-time study regardless of how many hours per week the trainee works.
