Download the invitation in Word (53 KB) or PDF (44 KB) format

A celebration is being held at Parliament Buildings on Tuesday 14 November to mark the end of institutional care in New Zealand.

New Zealand is at the forefront of deinstutionalisation and over the past two decades, this country has seen the closure of around 13 large state-run institutions for people with intellectual and physical disabilities.

The Minister of Health Pete Hodgson and the Minister of Disability Issues Ruth Dyson are inviting people who have lived in state-run institutions to attend the celebration day, as well as anyone with an interest in the deistitutionalisation process in New Zealand.

  • Time – 12pm-2pm
  • Venue – Banquet Hall, Parliament Buildings, Molesworth St, Thorndon, Wellington.

Please note: There is wheelchair access into the Banquet Hall and drivers of vehicles may enter Parliament at the Molesworth St entrance and drop guests off outside Parliament. Car parking facilities are not available in Parliament grounds, however the Bowen Street pay and display carpark is behind Parliament .
