Summary
A three-month public consultation was undertaken on the draft Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Guideline from Dec 06 – March 07. We commissioned a detailed analysis of the 108 submissions we received and in August 2007 sent the executive summary of this analysis to all submitters who asked for a copy.

Some of the submissions contained complex and lengthy feedback. We received an extra 800 references to consider. The public consultation provided positive feedback on many parts of the draft ASD Guideline and identified areas that needed further work.

In response to the submissions, the technical editor and workstream leaders have made revisions. A ‘Living Guideline’ approach will also be established over the next two years. This will help to ensure the Guideline is updated regularly and refined to reflect new evidence and changing user needs to prevent the Guideline from becoming quickly outdated.

Work remains on track for completion of the final ‘New Zealand Autism Spectrum Disorder Guideline’ by December 2007 and release by 31 January 2008.
