What is the Well Child Telephone Advice Service (Well Child line)?
The Well Child line provides information, advice and support on child development, behaviour and parenting issues in relation to children up to five years. This service supports the Well Child Framework.

Where is the Well Child line available?
The Well Child line is available to callers throughout New Zealand from either a landline or a cell phone.
What are the Well Child line hours?
The Well Child line operates from 7 am to 10 pm.

Who staffs the Well Child line?
Well Child calls are handled by a Well Child specialist nurse or a registered nurse with ready access to Well Child expertise. Well Child nurses provide advice on parenting and child development issues for children up to the age of five years.

Who is the Well Child Telephone Advice Service for?
The Well Child Telephone Advice Service is for parents and caregivers for children up to five years of age. It provides:
  • parenting advice
  • advice on child development and behavioural issues
  • advice on the availability of Well Child services in the community
  • child health promotion and health education
  • health information, for example information about immunisation.

What happens when I call the Well Child line?
Each call is assessed and referred to a Healthline nurse or a Well Child nurse, depending on whether the child is well or unwell.

Well Child callers will be provided with appropriate information on parenting and/or child development or behaviour issues. They will also be given information about face-to-face Well Child services available in the community.
