What is the target?

95% of two year olds are fully immunised with at least a 4% to 6% increase on 2005. The 95% target is an international standard we are striving towards achieving.

How far away are we from achieving this target?

A national immunisation survey in 2005 showed 77.4% of two year olds are immunised, compared to less than 60% in a similar survey undertaken in 1991/1992.

What is being done to make improvements?

The National Immunisation Register (NIR) is used to monitor immunisation coverage so children can be followed up. DHBs are working with key immunisation health workers to improve coverage.

How does the Ministry plan to achieve this target?

The Ministry plans to achieve this target by working with DHBs to monitor immunisation coverage and identify tools needed to improve coverage.
