HIA Practitioner Workshops

The University of Otago is providing two HIA training opportunities in its 2010 Summer School programme.

The first is a two day Introduction to health impact assessment on 15, 16 Feb 2010 in Wellington. This course introduces HIA which aids decision-making by predicting the potential effects of policies, programmes and projects on health, wellbeing and health inequalities.
The second is a one day course on Advanced HIA: Strengthening skills in appraisal and reporting on 25 Feb 2010 in Wellington. This interactive workshop focuses on the appraisal and reporting stage of Health Impact Assessment (HIA) and Whānau Ora HIA, and is the HIA Support Unit's third practitioner workshop.

The workshops are open to a range of attendees including:

People who have attended previous introductory or advanced HIA/Whānau Ora HIA training who wish to further their skills in the area of HIA/Whānau HIA appraisal and reporting
Staff within District Health Boards, public health services, local government, Maori providers, non-governmental organisations and policy makers who are specifically tasked with leading HIA/Whānau Ora HIA development and activities
Other impact assessment practitioners, such as SIA, EIA, cultural impact assessment and sustainability appraisal, who are interested in learning more about the appraisal and reporting stages of an HIA/Whānau Ora HIA process.
