Immunisation coverage for New Zealand children at 12 months of age is 82% (for the period 1 April 2008 to 1 April 2009). Immunisation coverage is measured at ‘milestone ages’. The milestone ages are 6 months, 12 months (1 year), 18 months, 24 months (2 years), 5 years and 12 years of age. The National Immunisation Register (NIR) started in District Health Boards (DHBs) throughout 2005, so data is only available for the 6 month, 12 month, 18 month and in some district health boards, at the 24 month milestone ages.
