The National Immunisation Schedule is the series of vaccines that are offered free to babies, children, adolescents and adults. The National Immunisation Schedule is provided below as well as information on the process for reviewing and changing the schedule and the availability of publically funded vaccines for children and adults pre- and post-splenectomy. Revewing and changing the National Immunisation Schedule To assist immunisation coverage and disease prevention in New Zealand, the National Immunisation Schedule is reviewed every two years and may change as new, more effective vaccines become available. The Immunisation Technical Working Group (ITWG) reviews the National Immunisation Schedule and provides recommendations to the Ministry of Health. The ITWG are an expert advisory committee, made up of paediatricians, microbiologists, infectious disease physicians, a general practitioner, and a registered nurse/immunisation coordinator. Publically funded vaccines for children and adults pre- and post-splenectomy Publicly funded pneumococcal, Hib and Meningococcal A, C Y, W135 and MeNZBTM vaccines are available for: Children (aged 0 to 16 years) pre- and post-splenectomy or with functional asplenia Adults pre- and post-splenectomy.
