Maternity Action Plan 2008–2012 - Draft for Consultation - October 2008
The draft Maternity Action Plan sets out a strategic vision for maternity services for the next four years, and includes a series of actions to achieve the vision. The draft Plan has been developed by the Ministry of Health in association with key maternity sector representatives, including service providers and consumers.

The Ministry of Health is finalising a guide to making a submission on the Maternity Action Plan. The guide and submission form will be available on this website from 21 October 2008. The Ministry encourages you to use this guide when preparing your submission.

All submissions must be received no later than 5 pm on Wednesday 31 December 2008.

Aug 2009: Maternal and Child Oral Health - Systematic Review and Analysis: a report for the New Zealand Ministry of Health
This report looks at the evidence for pre and post-natal factors that affect the future oral health of children.

Review of the Quality, Safety and Management of Maternity Services in the Wellington Area - October 2008
The scope of the review was to report on the adequacy and appropriateness of accountability arrangements, including the systems and procedures that apply to maternity providers, and that ensure quality and safety in maternity services. The Terms of Reference also specified that the reviewers may identify issues to be looked at in the context of maternity services throughout the country.

Maternity Services Consumer Satisfaction Survey 2007
The Maternity Services Consumer Satisfaction Survey provides insight into the level of satisfaction women have with maternity services. Just under 3,000 women who gave birth in 2007 generously gave their time to provide feedback on what they valued about maternity services, and where they thought improvements might be needed.
The Report presents the detailed findings relating to various aspects of maternity care including the ante-natal care, labour and birth experiences, and post-natal care that women received.

Review of Maternity Facility Access Agreement Final Report - March 2007
This report presents the analysis of submissions received for the Review of the Maternity Facility Access Agreement, and recommended action resulting from consultation.

A background paper intended to be used by health practitioners, including dietitians, nutritionists, midwives, doctors, nurses, primary health care providers, health promoters; educators and caregivers to provide sound and practical advice and support for pregnant and breastfeeding women and their families.

National Strategic Plan of Action for Breastfeeding 2008-2012
This document sets out a strategic framework to support the establishment of a breastfeeding culture in New Zealand. It is the advice of the National Breastfeeding Committee to the Director-General of Health.

Breastfeeding: A Guide to Action
This document sets out the Ministry of Health's plan of action for improving the initiation and maintenance of breastfeeding throughout New Zealand during 2002-03.


Survey


Maternity Services Consumer Satisfaction Survey
This survey represents the views of 2909 women who gave birth in New Zealand during February and March 2002. The objective of this survey was to review women's perceptions of maternity services, and to assess whether there has been any change since women were last surveyed in 1999.

This is my baby - smoke-free
This video for pregnant smokers was developed originally for the Midwifery Education for Women who Smoke (MEWS) study which was carried out by the Wellington School of Medicine. In this video we meet Real Kiwis - new parents who have successfully managed to keep their baby smokefree before and after birth. For use by antenatal and smokefree programmes. Duration of video: 24 minutes.

Originally produced by Alcohol Healthwatch, this pamphlet provides information on the serious issue of alcohol and pregnancy, with humorous baby cartoons by artist Dick Frizzell.

Your Pregnancy - To Haputanga
This new resource replacing code 4146 contains information on being pregnant, labour and birth and the first few weeks after the birth. The booklet also covers the roles and responsibilities of LMCs (Lead Maternity Carers).
