The Medical Training Board

www.moh.govt.nz/medicaltrainingboard

On 6 August 2009 the Minister of Health announced the disestablishment of the Medical Training Board and the establishment of the Clinical Training Agency Board. The functions of the Medical Training Board will be amalgamated with the functions of the Clinical Training Agency Board.

The Medical Training Board was established in 2007 by the Minister of Health and the Minister for Tertiary Education. The Training Board is charged with providing strategic oversight of the education and training of medical practitioners, and working towards a system that:

  • produces practitioners who are fit for purpose and for practice
  • meets the needs of the health sector.
The Training Board brings together expertise from the health service and the medical education sectors in order to develop practical measures to help New Zealand meet its medical workforce needs in the future.
