Summary of publication
The fourth Annual Report of the Office of the Director of Mental Health reflects the ongoing emphasis on transparency, accountability and trust in government and its agencies. Mental health care, in particular compulsory care, is often the subject of public concern and this annual report will help explain such issues.
The report comprises three sections. Section one provides an overview of the legislative and service delivery contexts in which the Office operates. Section two describes the work carried out by the Office in 2008 and Section three provides statistical information.
The Annual Report is a work in progress. Changes to the 2008 report include:
- the reduction of descriptive material included in the first section of the report,
- the inclusion of reportable deaths only,
- the inclusion of statistics collected in accordance with the Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Act 1966,
- a chart depicting the New Zealand Health Sector.
