They embrace Te Tiriti O Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi) and work to improve the health status of all peoples of Aotearoa/ New Zealand through participation in health and social policy development.

The Nurse Executives of New Zealand (NENZ) is an incorporated society comprising the most senior nurse/s in the District Health Board (DHB) or major health provider organisations and the senior nurse employed in each of the Department of Corrections, Ministry of Defence, Department of Occupational Safety & Health, and Ministry of Health.

NENZ states its purpose as being to provide strategic leadership for nursing in New Zealand, to advise and influence national policy and decision-making, to influence resource allocation, and to lead nursing workforce developments.

The International Council of Nurses is a federation of national nurses' associations, representing nurses in more than 120 countries. Founded in 1899, ICN is the world's first and widest reaching international organisation for health professionals.

ICN is operated by nurses for nurses, and works to ensure quality nursing care, sound health policies globally, the advancement of nursing knowledge, and the presence worldwide of a respected nursing profession and a competent and satisfied nursing workforce.

The American Nurses Association is a full-service professional organisation representing the nation's 2.6 million Registered Nurses through its 54 constituent state associations and 13 organisational affiliate members.

ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.

The American Nurses Association established the ANA Certification Program in 1973 to provide tangible recognition of professional achievement in a defined functional or clinical area of nursing.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) became its own corporation, a subsidiary of ANA in 1991 and since then, ANCC has certified more than 150,000 nurses throughout the U.S. and its territories in more than 30 specialty and advanced practice areas of nursing.
