Nursing in New Zealand

Registration Requirements

Registered nurses who have gained their registration in countries other than New Zealand need to apply to the Nursing Council of New Zealand before being able to practice as a registered nurse in New Zealand. Applicants with nursing registration in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory can apply under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act.

The Nursing Council of New Zealand is the statutory authority governing the practice of nurses and midwives in New Zealand and sets and monitors standards in the interests of public safety.

For more information visit the Nursing Council of New Zealand website.
