Breastfeeding
The foundations for a healthy life are laid in infancy and childhood, and a commitment to the health of our children is a commitment to the health of New Zealanders now and in the future. Breastfeeding contributes positively to infant and also to maternal health.

Food
New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) and Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) are responsible for food safety and standards in New Zealand.

Healthy Eating Healthy Action (HEHA)
Healthy Eating – Healthy Action (HEHA) is the Ministry of Health’s strategic approach to improving nutrition, increasing physical activity and achieving healthy weight for all New Zealanders.

Ministry of Health Nutrition and Physical Activity Policy
The Ministry of Health is committed to improving the health of New Zealanders. One of the ways to achieve this is through healthy eating and physical activity.

Obesity in New Zealand
Evidence is emerging to suggest that the prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing worldwide at an alarming rate. New Zealand is no exception. In 2002/3 one in three adults was overweight (excludes obese) and one in five adults was obese.

Physical Activity
Physical activity is one of thirteen health priority areas identified in the New Zealand Health Strategy.

Public Health Intelligence (PHI) Online
PHIOnline is a data visualisation tool, which includes maps with linked tables and charts. Where possible, information is provided at the District Health Board (DHB) and Territorial Authority (TA) level. PHIOnline includes data on hospitalisations, cancer registrations, mortality, as well as data from the 2002/03 New Zealand Health Survey.
