Summary
This paper, part of the Pacific Health and Disability Plan Review series, brings together available information and evidence about Pacific child health in New Zealand. It describes the determinants of child health: families, housing, education, deprivation; identifies and discusses risk and protective factors: parental behaviour, nutrition, physical activity and access to health services; poor health outcomes: high infant mortality, high ambulatory-sensitive hositalisation rates high respiratory and infectious diseases, high levels of skin infections, ear infections, poor oral health and overweight and obesity. Relevant interventions to improve child health are also discussed.
