Primary Health CarePrimary Mental Health About 90 percent of people with a mild to moderate mental illness such as depression, anxiety and addictions are treated in primary health care settings. However, in the past no funding was explicitly allocated for the purpose of developing primary mental health services to meet the needs of this group. As a step towards rectifying this, the Primary Health Care Strategy funding path has allocated a small amount of ongoing funding (just over $7 million GST exclusive) for primary mental health service development.
