BAU	Business-as-usual. The operation of existing systems
BCTI	Buyer Created Tax Invoice
BMJ	British Medical Journal
BPM	Business Process Manager, a claim and invoice processing system
Capitation Funding	A model for funding primary healthcare whereby the enrolled population is funded on a per head basis rather than on a per visit basis
CBF	Capitation Based Funding, both an information technology system and a supporting process for funding PHOs on a capitated basis
CCPS	Client Claims Processing System, a HealthPAC system that processes payments for providers of health and disability services on behalf of the funders of those services
CMS	Contract Management System, a HealthPAC system with three main functions: reporting; the generation and administration of agreements between funders and contracted providers of health and disability services; and processing payments to the providers of contracted health and disability services on behalf of the funders of those services
Connected Health Community	The collective of health workers and entities (i.e. hospitals, general practitioners, laboratories, pharmacies and other healthcare providers and funders), connectivity service providers and health information / application providers that communicate and collaborate within the Connected Health governance and management framework
Core Services	Those services and applications that are provided centrally for use by all participants in the Connected Health Community
CPI	Capitation Payments & Information, A Ministry initiative wit the goal of improving Primary Health Care Payment Systems, Information & Connectivity
CSC	Community Services Card
CSD	Clinical Services Directorate, a Ministry directorate
CSR	Capitation Summary Report
DHB	District Health Board. DHBs provide, or fund the provision of, health & disability services to 21 districts throughout New Zealand.
DHBNZ	District Health Boards New Zealand. The overall purpose of District Health Boards New Zealand is to assist DHBs in meeting their objectives and accountabilities to the Crown
DHBF&P	DHB Funding and Performance Directorate, a Ministry directorate
DME	Death & Merge Extract, a file provided by NZHIS that allows the PHO Regsiter to be updated with information regarding Dates of death and NHI number merges.
Enrolment	Enrolment with a PHO or provider means that the person enrolling intends to use that PHO or provider as their preferred provider of ongoing First Level Services (as defined in the Establishment Service Specifications) and enrolment will normally be through this provider
FFS	Fee for Service
FMIS	Financial Management Information System
Funder	An organisation that provides financial resources to individual and organisations involved in the delivery of healthcare services
Geocode	A geographical code to identify a point or area at the surface of the earth
GMS	General Medical Subsidy
HADIE	Health and Disability Information Exchange
Healthcare Providers	Any person (i.e., doctor, nurse, dentist) or facility (i.e., hospital or clinic) that provides medical care.
HealthPAC	Health Payments, Agreements and Compliance, a business unit of the Ministry of Health
HIN	Health Information Network
HISAC	Health Information Strategy Action Committee.HISAC is the Ministerial Advisory Committee that provides leadership, oversight and governance for implementing the Health Information Strategy for New Zealand (HIS-NZ)
HIS-NZ	Health Information Strategy for New Zealand
HISO	New Zealand Health Information Standards Organisation. HISO is a sub-committee of HISAC. HISO’s role is to engage with New Zealand’s health and disability sector to strategically manage the development of health information standards for New Zealand

IT	Information technology
ITS	Information Technology Services, a business unit of the Ministry. The information and communications technology organisation responsible for supporting HealthPAC and NZHIS

MHIRS	Mental Health Information Reporting System
Ministry	Ministry of Health
MSO	Management Service Organisation, for instance an external organisation carrying out IT processing for a PHO.
NCSP	National Cervical Screening Programme
Network	The communication path that connects a series of points
NHI	National Health Index
NIR	National Immunisation Register
NGHN	Next Generation Health Network
NGO	Non-Governmental Organisations, organisations that receive government funding to provide a set service, usually private trusts or incorporated societies
NMDS	National Minimum Dataset, the hospital inpatient discharges collection
NSDP	National Systems Development Programme
NSR	National Systems Review. The business case report, written by Deloitte in October 2005, that is the forerunner to this Connected Health business case
NZHIS	New Zealand Health Information Service, a business unit of the Ministry
NZTPS	New Zealand TelePaediatrics Service
PAS	Payment Advice Sheet
Patient	A person who requires medical care and purchases or uses healthcare services
PerOrg	Person Organisation Database, identifies people & organistaions within the sector
PHC	Primary Health Care
PHCDT	Primary Health Care Development Team, a group that works within the Minstry's Clinical Services Directorate
PHCS	Primary Health Care Strategy
PHIG	Primary Health Care Strategy Implementation Group
PHO	Primary Health Organisation. PHOs are the local provider organisations through which DHBs implement the Primary Health Care Strategy
PMS	Patient Management System, software used to manage patient data in primary practices
ProClaim	System for processing transactions for health-related payment claims, a HealthPAC system
PSG	Programme Steering Group. The management group that supports the business owners of Connected Health
PSC	Pharmaceutical Subsidy Card
PUC	Purchase Unit Code
Sector	The Health and Disability sector within New Zealand
SME	Subject Matter Expert
TPS	Transaction Processing System
UAT	User Acceptance Testing
WINCAPP	Windows Computer-Aided Pharmacy Processing
