Barriers and Motivators for Physical Activity in New Zealand

In addition to measuring physical activity levels within the New Zealand population, SPARC and the New Zealand Cancer Society recently undertook research “Obstacles to Action" (www.sparc.org.nz) to identify why people are active or inactive.

The 300-question mail questionnaire included questions on:
  • attitudes and opinions
  • health
  • health behaviour
  • physical activity
  • nutrition
  • access to information about health and physical activity; and
  • demographic information.
This research has led SPARC to develop a number of initiatives targeting those who are not regularly active but intend to become regularly active.
