Intervention Workforce Development and Training


The Ministry of Health currently contracts Abacus (Counselling, Training & Supervision Ltd) registered as its intervention workforce development and training provider. Their role is to provide independent clinical and technical advice to the Ministry in addition to providing workforce training and support to problem gambling intervention staff working for the Ministry’s funded problem gambling intervention service providers.

This service is integral to achieving the Ministry’s strategic objectives to develop a skilled workforce to deliver effective services to prevent and minimise gambling harm.

As part of the services delivered for the Ministry, Abacus is responsible for:

  • commenting on emerging trends in the sector
  • identifying and / or analysing recently released research findings, and
  • updating providers on workforce development training opportunities.
The following update received from Abacus may be of interest to both clinical and public health staff working in the problem gambling sector.

It is intended that this information will be updated on a regular basis.
