What is the Special Sessional Scheme Service Payment?
This payment is known as ‘subsidy under the Triple S Scheme.’ This subsidy is available to General Practitioners where it is to be used for encouraging health promotion and health awareness, through continuing education programmes with groups within the local community. In particular, such programmes will include:

  • Programmes with a child health focus
  • Programmes aimed at specific health problems including diabetes and smoking
  • Family health focused programmes on counselling, psychotherapy and related activities
  • Drug counselling & preventative medicine.

How do I claim for this service?
To obtain approval for payment of a subsidy under the Triple S Scheme, the General Practitioner is required to submit to the DHB a written proposal for funding which includes:

  • Full details of the intended programme including hours per week
  • a timetable
  • previous experience of the General Practitioner concerned and any other relevant details
The subsidy payable under the scheme is subject to a maximum of 4 hours per week, at an hourly rate of $75 per hour.

Is this free to the community?
Patients may not be charged for attending such programmes, and no other payments under this notice may be claimed for patients attending such programmes
