Service Planning and New Health Intervention Assessment (SPNIA)

Workshop 2007


This workshop, held on Thursday 25 October 2007, looked at the lessons learned and opportunities for improvement one year on from the introduction of the SPNIA framework. It covered the rationale for the SPNIA Framework, prioritisation processes and collaborative decision-making.

It was sponsored by the National Service and Technology Review Advisory Committee (NSTR) - a joint Ministry of Health and District Health Board committee.

Dr. Jill Sanders, Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH)


Dr. Jill M. Sanders is the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CADTH. She is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of CADTH and its four directorates.

Dr. Sanders was appointed President and CEO in 1997. She has since led CADTH's evolution into a primary source for unbiased, evidence-based information on drugs, devices, health care systems and best practices.

Her career experience includes space shuttle mission management, space hardware development, hospital clinical experience and management of a collaborative research and development program. She is Chair of Euroscan, an international organization of health technology assessment agencies for the exchange of information on emerging health technologies and a member of the Board of Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi), and a member of the UK HTA Advisory group.

Dr. Sanders holds Honours and Master’s Degrees in Physics as well as a PhD in Medical Physics.
