Statement on disinterment of James Takamore

The Ministry of Health has issued a disinterment license to the Police to enable compliance with the requirements of a High Court order, following the death of James Junior Takamore.

The Police are responsible for the disinterment and subsequent holding of the late Mr Takamore's remains, subject to further direction from the High Court.

Around 50 licenses are dealt with each year.

The implementation of this license is now the responsibility of the Police.

Background

The Burial and Cremation Act 1964 makes it an offence to remove from its burial place any body (or remains of any body) buried in any burial ground without a license granted by the Minister of Health, and except in accordance with such conditions as the Minister may prescribe.
