Joint Media Release
GP Leaders and Ministry of Health

8 June 2005

Agreement will lower GP fees for 18 - 24 year olds

The Ministry of Health and GP Leaders today announced that they have reached agreement over the roll-out of the increased Government subsidy for consultations by 18-24 year olds with a general practitioner.

The parties announced that they have agreed on a method of collecting GP fees information that will enable the Government to ensure that the higher funding is being passed on.

In addition, both parties have also agreed to a format for improved regular discussion between them on all matters concerning general practice and the primary health care sector.

The agreement means that from 1 July this year, 18-24 year old patients will start experiencing the lower charges in general practices.
