Implementing the process of Designating Auditing Agencies for the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Bill

Date of publication: November 2000

The proposed Health and Disability Services (Safety) Bill requires auditors to be designated (appointed) to audit “health services of any kind”. In the first instance “health services of any kind” means three main services meaning hospital care of any kind, residential disability care of any kind and rest home care of any kind. Audit agencies will be designated to audit service providers from this group. Audit agencies may choose to provide audit services in only some service groups.

The enclosed paper outlines the proposed implementation process to designate audit agencies to audit the above service providers.

Service standards have been developed for the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Bill. Audit tools have also been developed as requested by the sector, for the generic service standards and will be used for a defined time period.

The Director-General of Health invites your feedback on this draft document on the proposed implementation process and values your contribution.

The response mechanism is outlined in the document.
