The Ministry of Health is seeking feedback on its draft National Plan for Minimising Gambling Harm.

New Zealand has seen a dramatic rise in consumption of gambling products and player expenditure over the last decade, with a parallel rise in problem gambling. Worldwide, problem gambling is a rapidly evolving issue and many countries are grappling with developing effective policy and service solutions.

The Public Health and Mental Health directorates of the Ministry of Health have produced the draft National Plan for Minimising Gambling Harm and associated draft service specifications with a view to addressing this emerging problem in New Zealand.

The draft Plan and associated service specifications will be mailed to a wide range of stakeholders and interested parties for consultation. Consultation meetings will be held nationally, with feedback from the consultation process helping to inform the final plan.

Submissions closed Friday 20 December 2002.
