Water Safety – Review of the Priority 2 Identification Programme 1997/98

Date of publication: May 1998

The P2 Programme is currently approaching the end of its third year. Important new issues have emerged and are discussed in this review.

The total number of recommendations made by ESR for determinands to be classified as Priority 2 by the Ministry of Health is 787 to date. The total number of zones for which Priority 2 recommendations have been made is 513, serving a total population of approximately 2.5 million people.

When this review was written the Water Supplies Protection Regulations 1961 were under review (see MoH 1998b). Because of their relevance to the P2 Programme some sections are discussed in this document.
