New Zealand Intersectoral Initiatives for Improving the Health of Local Communities, 2005 is an updated literature review that examines the factors assisting in the successful implementation of intersectoral health initiatives. It is an update of an earlier review (published in 2001) which was widely consulted. This update reviews new research and other relevant literature on the design and implementation of intersectoral initiatives for improving the health of local communities. There is a focus on New Zealand evaluation studies completed between 1980 and 2005. The report discusses the critical success factors for intersectoral health action and provides positive examples of the part that District Health Boards and primary health care providers can play in planning and developing successful initiatives in primary health care.
