Summary

The Summary of Submissions report presents an overview of the comments of those who contributed to the consultation process for Whakatātaka Tuarua Māori Health Action Plan 2006-2011 by attending a hui or writing submissions.

Commencing in June 2006, extensive public consultation on the action plan consisted of 15 general public hui.

The Ministry of Health also invited written submissions on the action plan. While all feedback was welcomed, submitters were asked to consider the following questions:

Does the action plan accurately reflect the intent of He Korowai Oranga, the Māori Health Strategy? Reasons why?
Are the any actions you particularly endorse?
Are there any actions that you think need to change?
Have any key actions been missed?
Do you have any other comments on the action plan?

36 written submissions from across the country were received through the consultation process. Of these, 8 were individual submissions with the remaining 28 submissions representing a range of organisations within and associated with the health and disability support sector.

Several themes were raised through the consultation process. They are summarised in this report. The action plan was revised in response to feedback received through the consultation and also DHB and interagency consultation. Whakatātaka Tuarua was released in December 2006.

The Ministry of Health thanks all those who contributed to Whakatātaka Tuarua in providing feedback through the consultation process.
