Summary

The first annual report of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Complementary and Alternative Health (MACCAH). It outlines MACCAH's terms of reference, membership, work completed to date, and priorities for the future.

Established in June 2001, the Committee was set up to advise the Minister of Health on matters related to complementary and alternative medicine in New Zealand.

The Committee’s terms of reference require it to provide advice on the following key areas: regulation, consumer information needs, research and efficacy, integration, and
ways in which complementary and alternative medicine might help to achieve the goals of the New Zealand Health Strategy.

The Committee also advises the Minister, as and when required, on policy or legislation in development that is likely to have an impact on consumers and practitioners of complementary and alternative medicine.
