Summary

This is the Health Workforce Advisory Committee's (HWAC) third report to the Minister, and recommends strategies to develop health and disability workforce capacity.

Future Directions consolidates the committee's work to date and incorporates feedback from submissions on the Framing Future Directions Discussion Document and the summit held in March 2003. The recommendations to the Minister of Health, as set out in Future Directions, represent a significant milestone for HWAC and enable workforce development to be on the agenda of key stakeholders.

In addition to the six priority areas discussed at the summit, HWAC has amalgamated the research and evaluation recommendations into a seventh priority area for health and disability workforce development.
