Introduction
Following a preliminary meeting on 29 January 1999 to determine the procedure of the Inquiry, the hearing of the Inquiry commenced on 15 February 1999 as a public hearing and evidence was heard and examined for four weeks.
The evidence of three international witnesses was heard by audiolink and videolink respectively, and to accommodate those witnesses, the Inquiry sat in the evening on two consecutive nights.
A record of the oral evidence was kept, totalling 883 pages in addition to the written briefs of all the witnesses which were read by them to the Inquiry. A large number of documents and exhibits were also produced including three video tapes of the type of chest physiotherapy relevant to this Inquiry.
