Manager, Infrastructure Services

The Ministry of Health aims to ensure that the health and disability system works for all New Zealanders. Technology Services is responsible for the management of the IT infrastructure and resources required to plan for, develop, deliver and support properly-engineered IT services and products to meet the needs of the business. Technology Services is looking for a ‘Services’ champion to lead a team, of technical specialists and system engineer subject matter experts.

You will have well demonstrated leadership skills in providing technical expertise and problem solving in relation to the operations of the Information and Communications technologies which include SUN, Windows, AIX servers, Messaging and VM farms. You will also have experience with management and monitoring tools and other related technologies.

You will be responsible for providing technical support as a technical lead with your team through establishing and managing well defined processes and work controls. Development of standard work practices will be implemented to ensure change processes that will improve the user experiences while maintaining security.

Your main duties will be to:
  • Manage the core infrastructure to industry standards and accepted best practice.
  • Identification and management of resources for the planning, development and delivery of specified information communications systems services and products.
  • Plans and manages implementation of processes and procedures, tools and techniques for monitoring and managing the performance of automated systems and services.
  • Evaluation of new system software, reviews system software updates and identifies those that merit action.
  • Work with the Project Managers and Vendors to plan and test all major installations.
  • Work with team members to ensure planning and testing of all minor and patch updates.
  • Ensure that all operational documentation for system software is fit for purpose and current.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other teams across the technology services group.
  • Mitigate any risk and manage issues appropriately.

You will be an excellent communicator (both verbal and written) and will have previous experience managing and developing a team of 5-8, coordinating IT Service Support and doing what is required to ensure stability of the environment.

To be considered you should have exposure of the following;

Essential:
  • Proven experience in the leadership of technical specialists (system administrators and engineers).
  • Experience in applying specialized knowledge of server base computing interacting with networking software to large organisations.
  • Experience in implementing change within an organizations based on an ITIL process framework.
  • Experience in delivering outcomes focused quality improvement programmes.

This is a full time permanent position located in Wellington.
