Manager, Sector Business Tools

The Ministry of Health aims to ensure that the health and disability system works for all New Zealanders.

Technology Services is responsible for the management of the IT infrastructure and resources required to plan for, develop, deliver and support properly-engineered IT services and products to meet the needs of the business.

Technology Services is looking for a ‘Services’ champion to lead a team, of technical specialists and system engineer subject matter experts.

You will have well demonstrated leadership skills in managing a team of technical competent and system engineers and administrator for the Ministry’s infrastructure that delivers service to the users that are geographically dispersed around the country.

You will be responsible for providing technical expertise and problem solving in relation to the information and communications technologies that support the sector systems, applications and tools including all specialised technologies as required.

Your main duties will be to:
  • Provide process guidance and support as an advisor and where appropriate technically lead other resources within the Ministry.
  • Be responsible for defining, establishing and managing the processes and work controls
  • Ensure all staff follow agreed standard practices
  • Implement change initiatives that improves the user experience
  • Ensure potential faults are identified and worked through to resolution
  • Take responsibility for the installation, upgrade, operation, control, maintenance and effective use of IT

components and monitors performance.
  • Work with the Project Managers and Vendors to plan and test all major installations
  • Work with team members to ensure planning and testing of all minor and patch updates
  • Provide technical management of an IT operations ensuring that SLA’s are met and adhered to.
  • Provide appropriate status and other reports to specialists, users and managers
  • Ensure that operational procedures and working practices are fit for purpose and current.

You will be an excellent communicator (both verbal and written) and will have previous experience in providing leadership with a team of people who are efficient and effective with supporting users nationally.

To be considered you should have exposure of the following;
Essential:
  • Proven experience in the leadership of technical specialists
  • Experience in applying specialised knowledge of sector business tool software to large organisations
  • Experience in implementing change within an organizations based on an ITIL process framework
  • Experience in delivering outcomes focused quality improvement programmes

This is a full time permanent position located in Wellington.
