Do you want to improve New Zealander’s mortality and morbidity from tobacco smoking? Do you enjoy a busy role and working with the sector?

Approximately 5000 deaths each year are due to tobacco smoking. The Ministry of Health is implementing a smoking cessation initiative that focuses on helping smokers by encouraging more supported quit attempts more often.

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to manage the delivery of projects across workstreams and to provide project management guidance in other tobacco control programmes.

You will be responsible for managing at least two significant and complex inter-related projects, processes and stakeholder relationships (both internal and external to the Ministry). One is related to achievement of the better help for smokers to quit health target and the other supporting a cabinet papers development around tobacco retail displays.

You will already have a professional qualification in project management and have successfully completed a number of complex projects. You will have a demonstrated ability to effectively work within a team and to develop and maintain relationships with professionals from diverse disciplines. A practical ‘can do’ approach and flexibility would be advantageous for this role.

This is a fixed term position covering maternity leave (until the end of August 2010). Based in either Auckland, Hamilton or Wellington.
