The Commission's report provides a comprehensive summary and analysis of the senior medical and dental workforce, and the Ministry has accepted and begun implementing all 13 of the Commission's recommendations.

A unique website designed to help midwives, undergraduate nurses and childbirth educators to quickly and easily find useful information and resources about immunisation in New Zealand.

11 Jun: A Summary of the Improving Patient Pathways – Diagnostic Pilots (PDF, 119 KB)
A summary of fourteen diagnostic pilots that were undertaken in District Health Boards between May 2008 and January 2009. Contact details for the pilots are also included.

9 Jun: Screening Level Risk Characterisation for Mercury Exposure from Compact Fluorescent Lamps
The purpose of the report is to provide a screening level risk characterisation of mercury released from breakage of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs).

The Director-General of Health has recently completed a review of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 and reported his findings to the Minister of Health.

2 Jun: Roles and Responsibilities for Supporting Disabled Children and Young People under the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act 1989
This guideline supports the principles outlined in the memorandem of understanding (MoU) between Child, Youth and Family and the Health and Disability National Services Directorate at the Ministry of Health. It provides professionals working within Child, Youth and Family, the Ministry of Health and needs assessment and service co-ordination (NASC) organisations with guidance on how to apply the MoU.

27 May: The Investigation and Surveillance of Poisonings and Hazardous Substances Injuries: Guidelines for Public Health Units
Guidance for public health staff, on the systematic recording data on chemical complaints and incidents, to investigate alleged incidents, provide evidence for enforcement action, facilitate epidemiological research, and assist with the provision of feedback, on local issues around chemical injuries, to district health boards.

27 May: A Focus on Problem Gambling: Results of the 2006/07 New Zealand Health Survey
This report presents the key findings about problem gambling and gambling-related harm in the New Zealand population, from the 2006/07 New Zealand Health Survey.

26 May: National serosurvey of vaccine preventable diseases
The aim of the study was to estimate the seroprevalence of a range of vaccine preventable infections in New Zealand. This includes diseases that are vaccinated against in the National Immunisation Schedule.

26 May: Health Targets Quarter Two 2008/09 report
Summaries on progress in Quarter Two 2008/09 for each Health Target and more detailed information (eg, graphs and their source data) are now available.

Problem Gambling Resource for Local Government - this is a new resource designed to assist territorial authorities with their Class 4 ('pokie machine') and Totalisator Agency Board (TAB) gambling venue policy reviews.
