4 Nov: Guidelines for the Use of Fluorides
Provides an evidence based summary of current NZ and overseas evidence to inform best practice in the use of fluoride. These guidelines address the use of topical fluoride treatments including fluoride toothpastes, fluoride varnishes, fluoride mouthrinses, fluoride gels and foams and also for the use of fluoride tablets.

29 September: Management of Early Breast Cancer - Evidence-based Best Practice Guideline
The purpose of this guideline is to provide an evidence-based summary of best practice in the management of early breast cancer in order to promote best clinical practice in relation to the care and management of women with early breast cancer. The recommendations are based on clinical effectiveness and other considerations (including quality of life), but not on an analysis of cost effectiveness or quality of life years gained.

29 September: National Breastfeeding Programme Update Issue 8: September 2009
This issue of the newsletter introduces the next phase of the National Breastfeeding Promotion Campaign. The objectives of phase two are to increase public acceptance of breastfeeding and to encourage communities to support and facilitate breastfeeding wherever appropriate and possible.

14 September: Food and Nutrition Guidelines for Healthy Older People: A background paper - Draft for consultation
Food and Nutrition Guidelines for Healthy Older People: A background paper has been recently revised and is now available for public consultation. Once finalised these guidelines will be used as a best practice guide for health practitioners to support optimal nutrition in older people.

11 September: Health of Older People in New Zealand update - Age Related Residential Care Services Contract 2009 - 2010 added

11 September: Suspected Cancer in Primary Care: Guidelines for investigation, referral and reducing ethnic disparities
The guideline aims to alert primary care practitioners to features that should raise their suspicion of cancer, so they can refer patients early for further investigation. It also reviews issues around disparities and access to care, and their impact on cancer diagnosis and outcomes.

This report provides a snapshot of the key developments in the first year of implementing the New Zealand Suicide Prevention Action Plan 2008-2012

8 September: Evaluation of the Māori Provider Development Scheme
An evaluation of the Māori Provider Development Scheme (MPDS) was undertaken to assess how effective the MPDS has been at building the capability and capacity of Māori health providers.

7 September: Te Ao Auahatanga Hauora Māori: the Māori Health Innovations Fund
Over the next four years the Fund will invest in the design, development, promotion and delivery of innovative whānau ora driven health services.

3 September: The Cartwright Inquiry 1988
The Report of the Committee of Inquiry into allegations concerning the treatment of Cervical Cancer at National Women's Hospital and into other related matters - now available online

2 September: Request for Expression of Interest (EOI) for the delivery of Better, Sooner, More Convenient Primary Health Care
Expressions of Interest are being invited from eligible primary health care providers who are capable of delivering larger scale and a wider range of primary health care to their communities.
